The Battle of Shallowford

A Comedy by Ed Simpson
Directed by Pat Shull

The year is 1938.With the rest of the world on the brink of war, the sleepy Southern town of Shallowford
is more concerned with local gossip while gathered around the radio at the general store.
Uninterested in global events, their patriotic duty is rekindled when they hear the news of invaders from outer space.
Not realizing that the announcement is Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds", they band together and prepare for battle.

Who Creates Community Theatre? - Richard Cowan, 2002

Doctors, teachers, mothers, fathers, boys, girls, nurses, firemen, lawyers, secretaries. These are just some of the people who make up a community. These are also the people for whom and by whom community theatre is performed. They use the theatre as an outlet for their talents and energies and as a means for meeting new people and forming new friendships or renewing old ones. They come from every ethnic and social background. Some are interested in performing, others in helping behind the scenes. They are actors, singers, dancers, musicians, technicians, carpenters, box office help, and concessionaires. Without the participation of all of these talented and dedicated people the theatre cannot exist. This dedication and commitment add vitality to any city lucky enough to have a flourishing community theatre and enriches the lives of all who come in contact with it.
